If your flight route is very short, you might encounter an unusual surprise at the boarding gate: a plane with propellers instead of jet engines. Should you panic? Not at all! Having propellers is not synonymous with an "old" or "ancient" airplane, even if that is your first instinct!
In fact, you are almost certainly looking at a very modern aircraft. The choice of this type of propulsion (which, while being an older concept, is updated with the latest technological advancements) is based on efficiency: for short distances and lower altitudes, these engines are much more efficient than the jet engines you are typically used to.
Furthermore, the actual engine is a turbine, functioning very similarly to classic turbojets (see this post).
Do expect a bit more vibration and a more "intrusive" noise, especially during takeoff... this is absolutely normal!
