We humans generally have a predisposition toward conspiracy theories whenever the opportunity arises...
In other words, if something negatively impacts our plans, even when we are given an explanation, we tend to think we're being lied to and that "there’s something bigger going on behind the scenes."
Nowhere is this more prevalent than in the world of civil aviation!
How many times, due to delays, service disruptions, or unusual situations, have you heard an explanation from the crew that you felt was absolutely fake?
I’m going to tell you this with full transparency and honesty—it’s up to you whether you believe me or not...
Crews have NO reason to lie to you or mock you! What you are told is the truth!
Sometimes it’s delivered a bit clumsily, I’ll admit (we’re pilots, after all, not diplomats!). Often, unfortunately, disruptions are caused by a combination of factors that are very "technical" and difficult to explain to someone outside the industry. A simple onboard announcement often leaves room for doubtful interpretations.
But a pilot's job is to get you from A to B with maximum safety and maximum efficiency. That is what they are paid for at the end of the month. If the passenger is happy, they will fly with that airline again, and the pilot keeps receiving a paycheck.
If your day gets 3 or 4 hours longer because of a problem or a delay, keep in mind that theirs does too. Why on earth would they make up "games" or excuses?
Next time you're on board and face a delay or a problem, remember: you and the crew are allies working toward the same goal—getting to your destination!
